On February 1, 2012, a design competition created to promote and inspire adaptive reuse of its built environment through activism, social involvement and design will be released for public participation at www.retrophx.com
 
By creating ideas that are aesthetically appealing, economically feasible and communally smart, the Phoenix Urban Research Laboratory (PURL) is promoting a design competition that generates and rewards ideas from anyone with an interest in helping to create a more sustainable built environment.

The Phoenix Urban Research Lab (PURL) is looking for 6-8 volunteers to be involved with a project of the National Trust for Historic Buildings, surveying buildings with retrofit potential.  A description is below.

Students would attend one meeting in December, but the real work would start in January. It will involve 10 hrs/week for 8 weeks. There will be full training of all students, starting in early January.

Participants could work with Emily Talen to earn Independent Study credit in connection with their contributions to the project.
